We were so excited this year to be able to go to our annual family reunion. Last year we left the week after it was over to get Lael. We were quite excited to be able to introduce our sweet little girl to family.
I found a recipe for making HUGE bubbles. I was so very excited to be able to provide this as a fun activity for adults as well as children. Here is Tim in our backyard trying out the batch after I made it to see how it would work. We had a blast playing with them!

The family reunion fell just a few days after Lael's second birthday. Since Tim had to work the day before,
the kids and I hitched a ride with
my Mom and Dad and had a couple of extra days with Grandma before all
the activity. She had a slight temp the night before we left... and hoping it was
just her two year molars coming in proved a false hope. She continued
with the temp through our trip to Grandma's house, and when she refused
to eat dinner without crying, I knew something was up. The little white
blisters on her throat gave it away.
Aunt Sandy was a dear heart and offered to take us to the first care locally so we could get her seen and antibiotics started. I really wanted to introduce her to the family, and knew our 24 hour window was closing rapidly!! Sure enough, the strep test came back positive. After a very painful (but very effective) shot of Penicillin (all the pharmacies were closed for the July 4 holiday), she began to show very quick signs of recovery.
The next morning, she was almost back to herself...only a little more laid back. Here she is at Grandma's house modeling her new outfit from Aunt Amity and Uncle Justin. She loves it!

We haven't seen my brother and sister-in-law for a while, which was to Eli's advantage... Mom and Dad brought both the kids their bday presents from them. Here is Eli, who successfully assembled the entire 2 boxes of Legos the first morning we were at Grandma's house, and promptly began doing heavy construction. Notice the full smile with all teeth intact...

Eli had been asking me to make Ratatouille with him for some time. So we obtained all the ingredients and took them with us to share with family. It turned out very pretty!!

I love, love, love my Grandma!! Here she is the morning of the party, enjoying breakfast with us. I am so glad that my children can get to know her and love her as we all do!!

Remember the full smile??? Well, after munching on a slice of tomato....yes tomato!! Eli lost his top tooth just before the guests arrived.

Lael took everything in, watching and studying everyone and everything very intently.

My contribution to the festivities was a patriotic cake I made at Grandma's house.

Upon slicing, one has their very own flag:)

My Grandma, with her sister, Mary, flanked on both sides by her cousins, Clara and Martha. What a great bunch of ladies. They travel together and do life together. What blessings they are to everyone around them!

Hmmmm... There were a lot of folks there at the party.

Well, the bubbles were a bust...literally. Not sure what happened, but they didn't work. I used a little bit of well water to rinse out the jug, and I am afraid, somehow, chemically altered the solution.
I had a back up for the little ones.... a baby pool and a hula hoop... to pull the bubbles over their heads. That, too, didn't work with the well water, but the kids had a blast and tons of "clean fun!"

As I said, we used well water... and it was COLD!! Lael got her feet a little wet, and then was content to just watch the other kids as she made bubbles from the side:)

My cousin, Mandy, and her husband had a little girl 2 years ago. Katie's birthday is only 2 days apart from Lael's. Mandy and her husband Mike stayed over night at Grandma's house after the fireworks and went to church with us. How precious to see these 2 as they begin a friendship that will, hopefully span generations, as her great grandma has before her:)

Breakfast before church. How fun to watch them communicating with each other! Lael is still speaking very little. Mostly 1 syllable for any word. Katie is quite loquacious. Truly reminded me of a little Shirley Temple:) But Lael understands everything. It is amazing to see how quickly these two took off:)

Mom and Dad left right after breakfast to be able to get home earlier. Eli went home with them to spend a few days with them. Lael was quite upset to find that we had left Eli behind when we left for church and then, when we got back and she couldn't find him, she was running around, calling, "Eeee-eye!!"
After church, we had the photo opp with Grandma.... Grammalot to these munchkins:)

Oh how my heart is filled with love for these 2!! Separated by distance and 2 generations, yet hopefully joined by their hearts as mine is.
